Google Docs

Google Docs is a free web-based office suite and data storage site which is supervised by Google. For office works, the user can create, upload, and modify their documents, spreadsheet and presentations through this site. It also allows to share through email. Also for data storage, image files, video files, and any files can store it through Google Docs.

The first I tried Google Docs, it seems it’s easy for me to use this. In order to use this, you should have a GMail account and you can be able to log on to Google Docs and get it started. It is running through web browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. Its just like a using an operating system with only one desktop (for navigation, you can click the file and it opens in new page of the browser). It is alternative office suites to some popular office suites like Microsoft Office and Libre Office.  It is one of backing up files like electronic mail or e-mail in short such as Yahoo Mail and Google Mail. It allows to upload/attach the files you want to and also to download it. Can make a folder through collection and can drag the files to the folder you want to put in.    It is best for some students like me, employers from office works and someone who needed for backup their important files. But remember that one account is provided with 1 GB free space only to store files. If you want additional storage, you need to purchase through their plan. Some of their plan are 20 GB to 1 TB ($5 to $256 per year). Well it depends on you if you want to purchase their plans, but for me, having a free account to this great data storage site is enough for backing up files.

Also what’s great for this is that, you can share your files anyone you want from within Google Docs itself. This means, you do not need to manually find file in your computer system and attach to e-mail.

So what are you waiting for? It is a great data storage site wherein you, as a computer user can try this. A great site which is free to use anytime you want.

Realization for our Debate (July 04, 2011)

A nice experience for having a debate. You have to defend what you believe. In front of the public and the panel also should have to deliver clearly what we are presenting for; to be able to understand it.

After the debate, as a defender, I realized that it is important for us to enhance our communication and presentation skills (in front of the panel and also in the public). It is one way for the preparation of our thesis which is now enrolled for this semester. We should have knowledge what we are debating for. Patience and controlling emotion is need for this position. As a critic, now I realized that being a critic is the way of finding or judgement the fault/s of a defender/s. For this, the defender/s will be benefitted for the sake of their enhancing of their study.

As a general, have fun. Learn for our mistakes.  Enhance our presentation or communication skills. Believe your own opinion. Do not be nervous for presenting it. Analyze the panel’s questions before you answer. This one my realizations after we end our debate.

Revolution OS

Linux story, Free Software Development, the progressing of open source and also Linux VS. Windows are some of the topics of the movie entitled “Revolution OS” by J.T.S. Moore. It’s a quite interesting documentary for all of computer users in the world. This is where we know the advantages of the Linux operating system which is developed by Linus Torvalds.
As a user, I should have to know what is the most compatible operating system to use. I always used Windows operating system because it is well known but when I knew about the Linux operating system, I tried to use it. The first Linux distribution I used is the Ubuntu which for me is great operating system, simple and fast operating system to have.
Through this documentary, the viewers will gain some information on how to use open source software. About sharing and distributing the software through licensing in GNU project and for its source code and protects some certain rights such as prohibiting restriction on how to use the software which  is enough to have for. As what the documentary states about the open source software wherein it distributes also the source code for its development. Quite interesting, isn’t it? It can can debug the bugs of the software which will enhance the software of what the programmers or the users think about the feautures need. Mozilla Firefox as an internet browser, Filezilla as file sharing, these are some of the open source softwares available in the internet.
Thinking of it that relates to some pirated softwares such as Windows wherein some of its products distribute it as a free. It includes keygen, patch to have an unlimited license. Well, something related but it is different because what an open source states is that it is free but has some restrictions and the pirated one is just the one which has been duplicated and distributed without permission or authorization.
How about some commercialize softwares such as Bill Gate’s Microsoft? Well, this is what Richard Stallman’s target for, to have a free distributing software without any expense to have but again there are some restrictions for open source softwares on how to use it. Some of the interviewers had a great interaction for the viewers; it seems that the users should have to use a Linux operating system.
As a conclusion, Richard Stallman and Linus Torvalds had a great cooperation and contribution through making this Free Software Development and Linux operating system distributions as an open source to have a free distribution for their dearest computer users in the world especially students which will have a lesser expense and also will have a new learning to have.
